Road Trip #789 – US-61 S – Mississippi Mile 298-270 – Tunica
We drive south on US Highway 61, through Tunica County, the community of North Tunica, and the town of Tunica. We see a brief concurrency with Mississippi Highway 4. We enter Coahoma County, and then a concurrency with US Highway 49 begins. We conclude at the unincorporated community of Rudyard.

It’s easy to see why this is Future I-69 south of the Mississippi 713 junction. At least I think that’s the plan. It wouldn’t take a lot to convert this to an interstate: paving the shoulders, building a pair of bridges and a few straight ramps every couple of miles or so and signing it. Maybe an elegant flyover for US 49 west. By the way, the US 49 series is definitely worth watching!
Future I-69. Are there any plans in the few to convert any parts to interstate standards? The intersection would have to be replaced with interchanges and pave the shoulders.
