Zagreb is the capital of Croatia. Its historical center consists of two hills, Kaptol and Gradec. The area between the old town and the railway station is a series of parks known as the Green Horseshoe (also: Lenuci’s Horseshoe), interspersed with splendid buildings dating back to the 1800s. Zagreb’s architecture earned the city its nickname, “small Vienna”.

Zagreb keeps alive some cool traditions, such as firing a cannon every day at noon, or lighting old-fashioned gaslights on the streets at the evening.
