Climbing and cures in the mild Sarca Valley
The stylish health resort is located a few kilometers north of Riva in the wide Sarca Valley. The pretty old town nestles against a narrow cliff, on the top of which a castle ruin is enthroned.
After the Austrian Emperor had chosen Arco as the winter residence for the imperial court in 1872 due to its mild climate, many wealthy people from all over the monarchy were also drawn to the modest little town.
They built magnificent villas, laid out gardens and promenades and made Arco a sought-after spa town. And he has remained so to this day.
At the same time, Arco has developed into an international climbing stronghold in the recent past and is known for its fantastic cliffs and its ultra-modern climbing stadium. The Rock Master free climbing championship is held there every September.
In addition to climbers, more and more mountain bikers are coming to Arco, for whom there are countless trails to discover in the surrounding mountains.
Taken together, this results in a friendly place with a colorful mix of people away from the hustle and bustle at the lake. Because only a small piece of lake shore between Tobole and Riva del Garda, the so-called Lido di Arco, officially belongs to the municipal area.
