In a few hours, the winds of typhoon Hagibis are going to hit Tokyo in full force. Right now, as we upload this, the winds are already loud. We’re not sure how serious it’s going to be, but everyone we know is freaked out. Grocery stores have been cleaned out. Every shop is closed. Public transportation and airplanes are all stopped. We’re going to show you a bit of what the atmosphere here in Tokyo is like, we’ll show you a bit about how we’re prepping for the storm, and give you a couple of useful apps.

We’ll keep you up to date with what’s happening in Tokyo over on our Twitter and Instagram. Check those out:

  1. UPDATE: ok, I think the worst of it is over. The wind has totally died down here. We get random bursts of wind but rarely now. It’s still raining but not heavily. And our friends in the city are saying the same. Though a few of our friends got flooded, no one is hurt. We’ll see what it’s like tomorrow!

  2. I can see from the comments that most of the viewers haven’t had to run from Mother Nature before.

  3. During the 97/98 El Niño, we actually lost power and water for several days. I live in California, it was eerie! The streets were flooded to knee level but you couldn't get water to work in the house. My mom had stashed some 5 gallon buckets of water to use for flushing the toilets and washing up. You don't realize how accustomed you get to a hot shower until you have to use a cup out of a 5 gallon bucket that is freezing cold to wash up with…in the dark. Well, candle light but it was rationed strongly by mom cause we were poor. Not a fun time, but I know what things are important to have stocked in the event of an emergency.

  4. Holy heck- I almost dropped my drink when i heard her say "I have EDS"- I've never really seen anyone online with EDS- If you haven't guessed already, I have a pretty bad case of EDS. My mom has it way worse than me and my older sister is just as bad as me. It's cool to know there's someone out there who has EDS like me. 🙂 I also have a dream and a goal to visit Japan, But my family isn't doing well with money, so that's kind of impossible. Wish me luck i guess. 🙂

  5. Just watching this again because October 11th is my birthday and it happened to be the day before that huge typhoon so I basically just spend my day inside and online to figure out what the fuck was going on and how I as a foreigner can maybe help.
I also have a half Japanese friend whose grandparents were pretty affected by Hagibis and that wasn't easy to hear about either because I've met them and yeah it just was a lto even for someone not even living in that country.

  6. 11:39 “tornadoes are a different fish to fry” yes because there are no fish to fry as they also only form on land

  7. As a German these rolling shutters are completely normal to me. Other European countries have them too, but basically every residential home in Germany have these. I really don't know how that hasn't caught on in places like North America, but then again, let's remember the Japanese washlet video.

  8. I’ve watched this so many times & it’s not even Hurricane Season. Makes me FEEL SO MUCH BETTER (this sounds really messed up but it’s a Solidarity, I’m with y’all thing, I PROMISE LOL) seeing someone else get as scared & worried as I do when I big storm is coming to hit our favorite places at the beach. I just feel better knowing someone else cries too. We live in Southern Alabama so Def not as bad as the Gulf Coast but we still get heavy rain, flooding, wind & tornadoes bc Usually, not always, but usually we get the winds on the right side of the hurricane which are the usually the most powerful winds in the hurricanes we get. Our family are lucky Duckies like y’all & our house is on a elevation too. 💗💗💗🙏🏻💕💕💕💕☂️☂️☂️☂️☂️☂️☂️☂️☂️💕💕💕💕💕💕💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗 I feel safer & justified watching you guys prepare like we have to.

  9. I rode out the storm Kawasaki and it was INSANEEEEEEEEE AND THIS IS COMING FROM SOMEONE WHO RODE OUT HARVEY IN HOUSTON!!!!

  10. have you guys experienced any earthquakes? how are they? me and my husband want to move to japan one day (english teacher)

  11. little did we know that only a few months later we had to stay home again and all toilet paper would be gone

  12. This is so interesting. Where I live in the US, we get massive snow storms and forest fires, so we've all just kinda learned to be stocked up on things all the time. I'll be moving to Japan, and I know space is limited in homes, but because of the typhoon season, I may get creative when utilizing the space available!

  13. Is it wrong that i feel this is my fav weather? I'm a big lover of heavy rain as the fresh rain air eases my migraine/headaches and calms me down from my daily stress/anxiety limit and the wind warms me. But I know how damaging it also is

  14. sorry but when those like robot announcements make everything for me worse. Like so much worst because its so scary. I makes me so scared like gosh

  15. Hi everyone. To let you know that October 12th is my birthday. NO JOKE!!! I am serious. I just turned 49 when this storm hit Japan. My birthday sucked for the people in Japan. I also fill the tub for emergencies and when my building has scheduled pipe maintenance.

  16. Just in case people Don't know what a Typhoon is, it's basically a Hurricane in the western Pacific. Same type of Storm but in a different location.

  17. Honestly when I initially saw this I was like, "There is literally no issue." Then the weather turned for Okinawa during typhoons season and I was like, "GDI I need to prepare. Having a gen and having a flashlight is really important."
