先日、横須賀へ足を運んだ際に、「青い目の侍」と呼ばれたウィリアム・アダムスの墓を訪れました。
16世紀後半にオランダを出航し、壮絶な航海を経て、日本にやって来たウィリアム・アダムスは、死後400年以上が経過した今でも地元の方々に慕われており、墓を訪れる人が跡を絶ちません。
アダムスが実際に亡くなった土地は長崎県平戸市なので、機会があれば、平戸へも足を運びアダムスや大航海時代へ思いを馳せてみたいと思います。

William Adams, who sailed from Holland in the late 16th century and came to Japan after an epic voyage, is still adored by the local people more than 400 years after his death, and there is no end to the number of people who visit his grave.
The land where Adams actually died is in Hirado City, Nagasaki Prefecture, so if I have a chance, I would like to visit Hirado and think back to Adams and the Age of Discovery.
