北海道函館市の市街地西端にある山で観光地としても名高い「函館山」を紹介。
標高334m、周囲約9km。牛が寝そべるような外観から臥牛山（がぎゅうざん）とも呼ばれます。
山頂までロープウェイで3分という近さも特徴で、その絶妙な高さ・距離感が市街地や港を一望でき
夜景や絶景を楽しむことがも多くいらっしゃいます。
また、夜景だけではなく昼の眺望にも四季それぞれに見どころがあります。
秋は晴れの日が多く空気が澄んでいるため、遠くまで見えることが多い季節。冬には雪やイルミネーションとの競演を楽しめます。雲海が広がる春や、霧が出る夏には、隙間から幻想的な眺望が出現することもあります。
現在では函館を代表する観光名所として知られていますが、明治時代から昭和20年までは要塞として利用されていたため、今でも砲台など戦争の痕跡が残る場所です。

Introducing “Mt. Hakodate,” which is a mountain at the western end of the city of Hakodate, Hokkaido, and is famous as a tourist destination.
The altitude is 334m and the circumference is about 9km. It is also called Gagyuzan because it looks like a cow lying down.
