Welcome to Uki in Kumamoto and later on we make a small bicycle trip to Hikawa and visit two beautiful bridges.
During our time in Uki we stayed in an old Family home a House with more than 150 years of History!
That means the House was build back in the Meiji era. ((1868 – 1912))
In the front area of the house is a community area where the house owner sometimes makes delicious coffee.
He gathers books from many countries but mostly Japanese ones.
In the House he stores more than 10.000 Books.
This house was a normal family house and the front area was used as a drugstore.
The wooden inscriptions are from the front sign of that store.
This is a Japanese entrance where you take of your street shoes and switch into slippers or walk barefoot.
This is the Kitchen and living room.
Everything is build with wood, completely without stones.
To the left is the sleeping room and to the right is the inner garden with a pond.
The outside hallway leads to the toilets and shower/bathing room.
The Pond and garden is home to 9 Turtles if we counted correctly.
The Turtles can walk below the house and sometimes there are cats as well.
The sleeping room is decorated with really old accessories from the Meiji era.
From that room you have a direct view into the Garden, it is beautiful.
The smoke if to keep the mosquitos away.
The next place in Uki is the Ogawaaso Shrine it is famous for the big tree you can see here.
The tree is more than 1300 Years old and the Ocean used to be right in front of it and there is a story of a boat being towed to the tree.
The tree is really massive!
Next to the tree is a small bamboo forest.
The Shrine is also really cute and it looks like it has quite some history.
The next place is not in uki but it is close it is in Hikawa a short 30 minute ride on the bicycle away.
We went to see these amazing bridges and to put our feet in the refreshing water of the river.
The first bridge is the Ryujin Bridge and the second one is the Hinokoku Bridge.
After the Bridges we went down to the river beach.
The mountain is beautiful and there was even a waterfall.
The last place we visited is the Myoonji Temple.
