Matsumoto Castle is a castle located in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture.
The ruins of Matsumoto Castle are designated as national historic sites, and the castle tower is designated as a national treasure.In Japan, there are five castles whose castle tower is designated as a national treasure, and Matsumoto Castle is one of them.

The origin of Matsumoto Castle is said to be Fukashi Castle, which was built in 1504. After Nobunaga Oda destroyed Mr. Takeda in 1582, the castle owner changed many times, but Ogasawara regained Fukashi Castle and renamed it Matsumoto Castle. During the Edo period, there were 23 owners of Matsumoto Castle, and two big fires broke out. The last owner of Matsumoto Castle was Mitsunori Toda, and after the Meiji Restoration, Matsumoto Castle was returned to the imperial court, and Ninomaru of Matsumoto Castle became the prefectural office. In 1930, Matsumoto Castle was designated as a national historic site, and the castle came under the control of the country. After the end of the Pacific War in 1945, Matsumoto Castle was converted into a park.
