Imperial Geyser can be accessed by either the Fairy Falls Trail or the Fairy Meadows Trail. The most practical access to the Fairy Falls Trail is from the parking lot at the southern end of the Old Freight Road, just south of the Midway Geyser Basin — from the parking lot, follow the Old Freight Road north to the junction of the Fairy Falls Trail — continue west on the Fairy Falls Trail, past Fairy Falls to Spray Geyser, then to Imperial Geyser. The alternative route, the Fairy Meadows Trail, can be accessed from either the northern or southern ends of the Old Freight Road, or from the Sentinel Meadows Trail — from these locations, proceed west on the Fairy Meadows Trail and turn right (north-west) at the Fairy Falls Tail junction. Imperial Geyser is actually the “New Imperial Geyser,” the original geyser having blown out its plumbing around October 1929. New Imperial Geyser began to play sometime around August of 1966.
