長崎県佐世保市にある西海橋と新西海橋を歩いて来ました。西海橋は1955年に日本初の有料道路橋として完成しました。
西海橋の下を流れる伊之浦瀬戸は、幅300m、水深40m、最大潮流9Knotにおよぶため、架設には一本の支柱も使われず、ケー ブル精密操作により両岸から突出して組立て、最後にアーチ主構を中央部で閉合させる突桁式吊出し工法が用いられました。
架設工事には日本はもとより、世界でも初の試みとしての数種の新工法が開発され、日本技術界の水準を高めるのに大きく貢献し、その成果として西海橋は瀬戸の海面にその優美な姿を横たえるに至っています。
地元では桜の名所として知られていますが、渦潮も観れる事から一年を通して沢山の観光客が訪れます。
西海橋は2020年に国指定の重要文化財にも登録されました。
I walked on the Saikai Bridge and the New Saikai Bridge in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture.
The Saikai Bridge was completed in 1955 as Japan’s first toll bridge.
The Inoura Seto, which flows under the Saikai Bridge, is 300 m wide, 40 m deep, and has a maximum tidal current of 9 knots, so the bridge was erected without using a single support column, and was constructed using a thrust girder suspension method in which cables are precisely operated to project from both banks and finally the arch main structure is closed at the center.
The Saikai Bridge is now lying on the surface of the Seto Inland Sea with its graceful appearance as a result of these efforts.
In 2020, the Saikai Bridge was designated as a National Important Cultural Property.
