I visited the stunning sightseeing spot “Narai-juku” in Shiojiri City, Nagano Prefecture.

Narai-juku is known for its old-world beauty and attracts tourists with a quaint and traditional atmosphere.
I was overwhelmed by the townscape that made me feel as if I had traveled back in time to the Edo period (1603-1867).

It is the longest of the many post towns on the Nakasendo road that connects Tokyo and Kyoto.

I enjoyed Shinshu’s famous Soba (buckwheat noodles) and Gohei mochi while imagining the time when it would have been very lively with people passing by.

Narai-juku is a truly wonderful Important Preservation Districts for Groups of Traditional Buildings that I hope will remain in future generations.
