◆Megijima, also known as “Onigashima”
The most famous Japanese folk tale is Momotaro. In the story of Momotaro, there is a legend that the island where Momotaro went to exterminate ogres was Megijima. It is said that Momotaro, born from a peach, was born in Okayama Prefecture, north of Megijima, and rowed a boat with a dog, monkey, and pheasant from that prefecture to Megijima (Onigashima).
For this reason, statues modeled after ogres can be seen throughout Megijima. Megijima has long been a famous tourist destination in Japan due to this “Momotaro legend”.

◆Ebb during spring tide, Shoal appears offshore of Megijima.
On May 16 and 17, 2022, a shoal appeared offshore of Megijima. The shallows were only 18 cm deep at low tide on May 17.
I was fortunate to be able to capture the fish when I was shooting with my drone. The fish swimming is probably a black sea bream. People in Kagawa Prefecture call black sea bream “chinu”.
Also, halfbeak can be seen. The Japanese call the fish “Sayori”.
