Sado Island’s Tarai Bune Rides
On the edge of Sado Island’s Ogi Coast, you can ride the “Tarai Bune”. These unique bath boats or basket boats are used to harvest seaweed, turban shells, and abalone. A “Tarai” is a traditional Japanese washbasin that looks like half of a wooden barrel. It was used to wash clothes or taking a bath. The women wearing the kimono moves us through the coral reef using a large oar.
Hokusetsu: A Top Brewery on Japan’s “Sake Island”
The Hokusetsu sake brewery has been around since 1897, located in the southwest of Sado island.

Nobu’s Exclusive Supplier
One of the original Iron Chefs, Nobu’s restaurants are found all around the world and well loved. Founded by chef Matsuhisa “Nobu” Nobuyuki and well known Hollywood star Robert De Niro. Friends for 30 years, Nobu has also had some small movie roles. Rock musician Yazawa Eikichi gave Nobu a gift of sake from the brewery, which egnited Nobu’s love for their sake.
