We’re back on another week-long light bikepacking trip, this time through Wakayama prefecture in Japan! We call it light, as we stayed in hotels instead of pitching a tent, which allowed us to take much less gear than most bikepackers! This video is our first day – taking our cross bike and mountain bike on the shinkansen to Wakayama city and then cycling 60 km along the Kinokawa River to Hashimoto city.

Despite its length, this was the easiest and tamest day of cycling, as it was always straight ahead along the river and it was completely flat. The day started with a bit of sightseeing in Wakayama as we visited Wakayama Castle; and ended with a beautiful sunset, a quick visit to one of the pilgrim temples and a cosy airbnb stay where the kind hosts treated us to a huge dinner!
