Walk through Kirishima Jingu Shrine in a sunny refreshing morning ⛩ 🌞
5月の爽やかな晴れの朝に、霧島神宮をウォーキング、参拝しました。
The “Kirishima Jingu Main Hall, Haiden Hall, and Haiden Hall” were designated as National Treasures by an official announcement in the official gazette on Wednesday, February 9, 2022! The “Kirishima Jingu Togoroshirai and the Imperial Hall” are designated as Important Cultural Properties.
After passing through the approach surrounded by quiet greenery, you will see the majestic vermilion-lacquered shrine pavilions. Kirishima Jingu Shrine, which enshrines Niniginomikoto, the hero of the myth of the descent of the Gods, is said to have been founded around the 6th century, and is one of the few shrines to claim the name “Jingu”. It is said that the shrine was first built between Takachiho and Mihachi in the Kirishima mountain range, but the shrine buildings were repeatedly burned down and relocated due to repeated eruptions of Mount Kirishima. The current shrine pavilion was built in 1715 during the Edo period (1603-1868), when Shimazu Yoshitaka, a feudal lord of Satsuma, donated it to the shrine. The shrine pavilions, built on a slope, are lavishly decorated throughout the interior, and the buildings are designated as National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties, respectively. The nine masks, or ku-men, which have been handed down in Kirishima Jingu Shrine since ancient times, are believed to be unique as they are connected to kumen, or the art of making money, etc. There are good luck charms and various other goods available. In the surrounding area, there are places where visitors can enjoy the autumn foliage, the Shinsuikyo Gorge with its beautiful scenery caused by volcanic activity, and other spectacular natural sights, and a place where visitors can enjoy the sacred air away from the city.
