This amazing Lake District walking trail starts at Mary’s Bridge Car Park [owned by the National Trust], which means it is free to members.

There is a magical feel to this place, with peaks, lakes, and waterfalls all in one short walk. The land here was once owned by the famous Beatrix Potter, who lived in a house beside the nearby village of Hawkshead.

This walk follows the Tom Gill river, passing by the Tom Gyhll waterfall before arriving at Tarn Hows. After a short walk along its bank, we head off towards Tom’s Heights, before dropping back down towards the Cumbria Way. Passing by Stone Chair Hill and the Iron Keld Plantation, we arrive back at the shore of Tarn How. We continue along its banks through the Rose Castle Plantation and up to the Tarns Viewpoint. We return back to the car via Harry Field Wood.
