Breathe in and immerse yourself in the beauty of Japan’s most sacred pilgrimage route, the Kumano Kodo. It is said that gods descended on Japan in the Kumano region, and it’s easy to see why they chose this spot!
The iconic pagoda standing in front of the mammoth 133m Nachi Falls is part of a rare religious complex known as a “jingu-ji” (“Shrine-temple”) that combines both Shinto and Buddhist religions in perfect harmony.
The walking route encompassing these gorgeous locations holds such great importance that it is one of only two in the world to have earned World Heritage Pilgrimage status and while hardcore pilgrims can march the sacred route in 30-40 days from Kyoto, day trippers can access Japan’s tallest waterfall and jingu-ji complex by bus or take an hour long pilgrimage hike starting at the beautiful wooded Daimonzaka slope at its base.
Who’s ready to get their walking boots on to see this must-see location in Japan? 🥾
