Saiko Iyashi no Sato Nenba is a healing village at Nenba district, standing on the shore of Saiko (Saiko or West lake is the second smallest of Fuji five lakes). This traditional Japanese village was once a small farming community until it was destroyed by a landslide during a typhoon in 1966. Later, the village’s traditional thatched roofed houses were reconstructed and reopened as an open air museum and traditional craft village. Visitor can admire thatched roof houses, learn about Japanese crafts and culture, and taste local foods. What made these houses so unique were the roofs. They were designed to look like a samurai warrior helmet, a style of construction is known as Kabuto-zukuri.
This village is definitely one of the top attractions in the Mt. Fuji’s areas, a great place to visit for those interested in what traditional Japanese life is like.
It’s around 30 minutes by bus from Kawaguchiko station to Saiko Iyashi no Sato Nenba.
