Tateyama or Mt Tate is about 25 k’s as the crow flys from Hakuba. It is one of the snowiest places on earth and as we see in the video there was no shortage of snow this year. 18 meters or 60 feet is the recorded height as from the 15th of April. That’s a huge base and even though thankfully we don’t see that amount here in Hakuba it does have a correlation to how good our winter was this season. For more info on how to get there from Hakuba or Tokyo for that matter check out last years video here.
The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is one of Japans most popular tourist destinations.
Be sure to wear warm clothes and good footwear as well as taking sunscreen and sunglasses. We experienced all kinds of weather including snow which you can see at the start of the trip at Kurobe Dam.
Tateyama is a mecca for backcountry skiers and boarders as well as hikers. You are able to camp up there or stay at the main hotel or at a number of lodges. There is some serious terrain with high risks of avalanche so please take extra care.
We also did a couple of days at Goryu and Hakuba 47. Both are still full cover which has been awesome. Midweek sees uncrowded slopes but the weekends have been busy which is excellent for all of the resorts here in Hakuba. It is a great atmosphere.
Thanks for watching and please leave a comment and let me know what you would like to see in and around Hakuba. See you next week.

Hakuba bar –

This weeks drink of choice was Chiyo no Hikari nihonshu from Niigata. Seishu style which is the clear variety. Seishu (清酒), ‘clear/clean sake’. Nihonshu is the term used in Japan for what most foreigners would call sake. I know it looks like a shot glass but sake should be sipped. If you are drinking with others then you should fill their cup and they should fill yours.
