Kawazu cherry blossom (河津桜 Kawazu Sakura or Kawazu Zakura in Japanese) is one of the earliest blooming cherry blossoms in Japan. About 8,000 cherry trees bloom in early February and are in full bloom in late February (2月初旬に開花、2月下旬に満開・見頃). In particular, the tunnel of about 900 cherry trees along the Kawazu River is a very popular spot (河津川沿いの桜並木の桜のトンネル). Almost all parking lots are crowded this spring season, so it is recommended to go by train.
And, about 2,000 year old Yamataka Jindai Sakura (山高神代桜, 日本三大桜), one of the three greatest cherry trees in Japan, and Ishitokaba Zakura (石戸蒲ザクラ, 日本五大桜), one of the five major cherry trees in Japan, are also popular cherry blossom spot worth visiting.

* There was a traffic jam for photography.
* The pink color of Kawazu cherry blossoms was brighter than I expected.
* I fell into the marketing trap of the people selling Japanese sweets on the promenade and bought some.
* There were so many photographers trying to take pictures of a train and cherry blossoms together.
* I walked for an hour from the nearest station to the Jindai-Zakura, but it was really hard, so I do not recommend it.
* I was forced to exchange the cherry branch the gardener had gave me by a middle-aged woman who also wanted it.
* Determining when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom is difficult.
