Yamashita Park is one of the most famous parks in Yokohama for its location and its views. This park is often used to take scenes for Japanese movies and TV series.
This park was created in 1930 as the first seaside park in Japan, and before this park was created, it was just a seaside road. After the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923, the heap of rubbles was moved to the seaside, and that became the foundation of the park.
As you can see at 2:38, there is an ocean liner called Hikawa Maru, which was the retired liner and now used as a museum, is anchored.
Hikawa Maru is a historical cargo-passenger ship, and the English famous comedian Charles Spencer Chaplin took this liner to go back to the US. This ship was designated as an Important Cultural Property in 2016. This park also contains a rose garden as you can see at 3:54 in this video.
The park is located less than 5 minutes away from Chinatown in Yokohama. The closest station would be Motomachi-Chūkagai Station(Minatomirai Line), but many people just walk to visit this beautiful park from the main stations in Yokohama such as Sakuragicho Station or Minatomirai Station. I will post a video of Chinatown later on, so I hope you will enjoy the next video of Yokohama too.
