The Eden Garden Park is one of the best parks in the Kolkata City. Glossing over a vast area it stands as one of the choicest parks for all the age groups. It’s situated between the Eden Garden Cricket Stadium and the Strand Road overlooking the River Hooghly. The park is maintained by the Forest Department, Government of West Bengal.

Attractions

1. The Greenery: The trees, the shrubs, and the bushes add to the beauty of the park. The cool shades of the variety of trees like the coconut, banyan, and mango are a delight to experience in the real time. There is hardly any corner of the park that is devoid of greenery. Besides, the colorful flowers, all popping their heads up, would inspire you at every step.

2. The Beautiful Water Fountains: We also found a pair of beautiful water fountains in the park located at a perpendicular distance from each other. When operational, these do add a high degree of charm and excitement among the visitors.

3. The Orchid House: The Orchid House is where the orchid flowers are grown and preserved. Here you will find orchids of various shapes and sizes.

4. The Japanese Garden: The Japanese Garden is for aesthetic recreation and meditation. It is said that the very plan of the garden was imported from China to Japan after which it was duly designed by the garden designers.

5. Children Play Area: There is a special play area dedicated to the children. Here, you will find all the amusement stuff for the toddlers including slips, and swings.

5. The Big Pond (Water Tank): The big pond formally known as the water tank is another attraction of the park. Apart from having plenty of sitting spaces, there is a small bridge over it. The bridge leverages various angles to view the pond and its surrounding from a different perspective.

6. The Burmese Pagoda: It’s a sacred and a historical structure as well. It’s sacred because once it was worshiped by Buddhist priests and historical because it was brought by Lord Dalhousie to Kolkata centuries ago.

7. The Giant Flower Vase: It rests on a raised platform in the middle of the garden. The wonderfully decorated vase (pot) along with the flowering shrub successfully catches everyone’s attention from a distance.

Activities

The wonderfully maintained park relates to everyone’s mood and temperament. Once you are inside the park, you will have a great time watching the variety of trees, shrubs, and bushes. The green grasses on the ground resemble a big green carpet. The exotic flowers of different colors would infuse energy into your veins. You may sit, relax and watch these as long as you wish. Besides, you may stroll around the park in the cool breeze under the green shades of trees. Have other plans? Then you may sit near the water body inside the park and watch the waters passing by. Being there, you may sight some pleasant birds as well. Finally, if you want to treasure some peaceful moments head over the Burmese Pagoda and spend some time there in peace.

Timing & Entry: The Park is open from the morning to late evening every day of the week. Entry is free for everyone.
