February 2010 and we travel to Jiuzhaigou in Sichuan. The flight from Chengdu was spectacular as our aircraft seemed to be flying between the mountain peaks.
The entrance to the Jiuzhaigou valley is surrounded by hotels and there was no problem findinng accomodation although in the summer months most hotels are apparently fully booked.
The valley starts at an altitude of 6000 feet and rises to over 10000 feet at the head of the west valley. Most visitors take a bus up the valley and walk back down. Buses seem to run at about 10 minute intervals and the last bus of the day collects all the stragglers so no one is left stranded in the park.
