Shorinzan Daruma-ji Temple is located in Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, and it’s said to be the place where daruma dolls originated from. These traditional dolls are purchased with no eyes drawn on, and the intent is that you decide on a goal and fill in the left eye at that time. Once that goal is achieved, you fill in the right eye. đź‘€
At the start of the year, old daruma are thanked for the luck and prosperity they’ve provided, and burned in a bonfire on the temple grounds.🔥
