A day-trip from Sapporo to the eastern Hokkaido town of Kushiro, 350km by train. From there a bus ride north into the Kushiro Shitsugen National Park to the village of Tsuruimidai, to see the very rare and famous Dancing Cranes aka Japanese Cranes aka Tancho — official name Red-crowned Crane, sp.
