Nazaré is a town and municipality located in the District of Leiria in Central Portugal. In this Walking Tour in Nazaré, we’ll go walk throught the Praia do Norte (‘North Beach’), a very popular surfing destination because of the very high breaking waves that form due to the presence of the underwater Nazaré Canyon. Nazaré’s waves were listed on the Guinness Book of Records for the biggest waves ever surfed. The best period to observe the giant waves at Nazaré Beach is between the months of October and March, with December being the month where big wave surfing competitions take place. On this walking tour, we were present just one day before the start of the official competitions in December 2021.
