Tokyo’s Korea Town, just north of Shinjuku in Shin-Okubo, has become a well-established community of immigrants and ethnic Koreans. Signs with Hangul (Korean) characters are perhaps more common than ones in Kanji here, giving the neighborhood a solid visual identity and international vibe.

The area is not only wonderful for those in favor of Korean cuisine, with many options to feast on including the worldwide famed fried chicken, the cheesy and spicy hot pots and of course all the Korean BBQ one could desire, but Koreatown also offers all the Korean goodies that could save a flight fare for all the Kpop fanatics and korean cosmetic addicts out there.

Close to the Shinjuku area is an exciting change of scenery from the regular Tokyo spots: Shin-Okubo. Tokyo’s ‘Korean Town’ is not just for those obsessed with the pretty faces of the Korean Pop world. Actually, the small but vibrant area in Shin-Okubo boasts a ton of street food, karaoke, markets, restaurants and bars that show off the South Korean vibe and way of life.
