The 211 series was one of the last Japan National Railway (JNR) trains, being introduced in 1985 to replace 113 & 115 series trains operated by the then JNR and later JR East, JR Tokai and JR West. Today they are still operated by JR Tokai (on the Tokaido Main and Chuo Main Line), although due to be replaced in coming years by their new 315 series and by JR East in their Nagano and Takasaki Branch areas. They were a very common site in the Tokyo area prior to the E231 being introduced operating on the Tokaido Main Line and Takasaki & Utsunomiya Lines. The 211s operating in the Nagano Branch area originate from the Tokaido Main Line (having been converted to 3 and 6 car formations with other modifications) (some of these units also had a spell in the Chiba Branch area).

These trains have a stainless steel body and are capable of 110km/h.

In this video we have clips of Nagano Branch trains, with their blue stripe livery operating on the Chuo Main Line in the Otsuki area.
