Toyooka City in Hyogo Prefecture has just been selected by @green.destinations as part of their 2021 Top 100 Destination Sustainability Stories! Thanks to a dedicated breeding and research team, Toyooka City has created an environment where locals and the beautiful Oriental White Stork can coexist – prior to this, this breed of stork had not been spotted in Japan since 1971. After 40 years of fails, challenges and efforts, the storks could finally be reintroduced to the wild. What an achievement! 👏🏽
Toyooka City is also famous for its charming hot spring town of Kinosaki Onsen and the castle town of Izushi, featuring fine traditional architecture and its own unique style of soba! Well worth adding to the list if you ask us!
