The oldest wooden theater in Japan – Korakukan | Akita

During the heydays of the Kosaka Mining which was once the biggest in Japan, a recreational facility was built for the workers and their families. Korakukan Theater’s exterior of the building is Western-style and the inside is a pure Japanese-style playhouse. It features a mix of Japanese and Western styles, which is rare in a playhouse.

In 2002, it was designated as a National Important Cultural Property.
