Our first car camping / overlanding at a beach farm in Calatagan wasn’t really in our original plan. We wanted to drive to Mabini, Batangas, and camp in the mountains but we were stopped once again by the checkpoint. Because we didn’t want to give up just yet, we drove further down the national highway and looked for other camping spots in the area. We checked each and every resort we saw on Google Maps, passed through the towns of Taal and Balayan until we found Caisip Beach.
Caisip beach farm is a property in Calatagan owned by the Caisip family. We were lucky to have met the owner and have a chat with him about the place. We’re grateful that Caisip beach farm didn’t turn us down even if we came unexpectedly.
As camping and overlanding newbies, we didn’t know how to set up our extra large awning. It took us an hour or more, and the landlady was probably judging us for it. Despite the setbacks, we enjoyed cooking outdoors, drinking, and just lounging around by the beach. It was so peaceful and relaxing, exactly the break we need from being stuck in Manila.
Watch ’til the end to see some behind the scenes featuring our shooting mistakes and camp setup mishaps!
OUR RATING: ★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆
Accessibility – Accessible to everyone in the Philippines as long as the province of Batangas is at least on GCQ.
Distance – This place takes a while to get to when you’re coming from Manila, whether you take the Nasugbu route or Mabini route. It took us almost 5 hours to get here as we were looking for alternative places while driving.
Experience – The caretaker is very friendly and the owner is accommodating. Unfortunately, other neighboring resorts started burning leaves and the smoke was going in our direction which was uncomfortable. Pitching a tent on the sand was also challenging but expected. The abundance of trees makes a good shade for tents and cars, keeping us cool throughout our stay. Be cautious of the many fiery ants near the trees and on the sand – they bite!
Location – The campsite is by the beach and next to the sea. This gives you a nice and peaceful view surrounded by trees.
