Much of the preserved street of Saga-Toriimoto leading to the Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple has been well maintained in the style of the Meiji Period (1868-1912). Many of the buildings along this atmospheric street are traditional machiya (“town houses”) style that used to serve as private residences but have then been converted into shops and restaurants.
