The Robot Restaurant in Tokyo is the most insane restaurant in the world where you can enjoy an hour lunch or dinner service while enjoying a show that will have you question the foundation of your life.
The show is only 3 hours and you need to reserve upfront. The great thing is that the staff speaks English so you could call in from your hotel room. I was little bit disappointed with the small dinner box but luckily some Australians next to me offered me their dinner boxes so I had a feast to enjoy.
The show starts off with a fun dance with swords but quickly gets stranger and stranger with fighting robots, Pandas on cows, dinosaur fighting girls, girls hanging from an airplane and giant tanks. Fitted out at a cost of 10 Billion YEN ($100 Million), Robot Restaurant looks like something straight out of a futuristic movie, all migraine-inducing neon, video screens and mirrors.
Customers pay a 5,000 YEN charge ($50), the drink menu only extends as far as canned beer, chu-hai and bottled tea, sold at the kind of prices you’d expect at a baseball game.
The entry fee also includes a bento box, though you’d find tastier fare in an average convenience store. There are three hour-long shows each night, in which the nubile staff take to the floor on giant robots, including a neon tank and enormous female ‘borgs – complete with (literally) pneumatic busts.
The customers seemed a little too gob-smacked to know what to do at first, but by the end they were waving their glow-sticks like hardened ParaPara dancers. Give it a chance, and you might find yourself doing the same thing too.
