Morotai Island is the name of an island in the Halmahera Islands, Maluku Islands. The area of ​​this island is 2,330.60 Km2 with a coastline of 311,217 Km.

Morotai Island has 33 small islands that surround it. There are 26 uninhabited islands, and 7 inhabited islands, namely Morotai island (main island), Kolorai island, small Ngele-ngele island, large Ngele-ngele island, Golo-golo island, Rao island, and Saminyamau island.

Morotai Island has a unique history. The name Morotai comes from giving the name of the Moro Kingdom. Because the Morotai Kingdom was a colony of the Moro Kingdom during the 15-17th Century AD. The Moro Kingdom named their colonies there were two, namely, Morotia which means Moro land, and Morotai which means Moro sea.

In 1942, Morotai became a Japanese airfield during World War II. It was then taken over by the United States after the great battle of 1944 until, at its climax, the allies launched atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The battle was very fierce because the position of the island of Morotai was very strategic in the war between the Allies and Japan.
