Shiraito-no-taki(白糸の滝), which is known as a famous waterfall in japan, is a waterfall located in Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Prefecture Japan, where water flows down from a curved cliff with a height of 20m and a width of 150m.
The thaw water flowing from Mt. Fuji flows through the boundary between the Shin-Fuji volcanic layer, which is the upper water-permeable layer, and the Kofuji volcanic layer, which is the lower water-impermeable layer, and eventually flows down through the gaps in the cliff.
It is named “Shiraito no Taki” because it looks like a silk thread hanging down, and it is designated as a national scenic spot and a natural monument.
It is also one of the 100 best waterfalls in Japan and one of Japan’s three major waterfalls, and is registered as a World Cultural Heritage as an asset that constitutes “Mt. Fuji-the object of worship and the source of art.”
天下の名瀑としてその名を轟かす白糸ノ滝は、静岡県富士宮市に位置する高さ20m・幅150ｍの湾曲した絶壁から水が流れ落ちる風景が美しい滝です。
富士山から流れる雪解け水が、上部の水を通す地層である新富士火山層と下部の水を通さない地層である古富士火山層の境を流れ、やがて絶壁の隙間から流れ落ちます。
その姿はまるで絹糸を垂らしたように見える事から「白糸の滝(しらいとのたき)」と名付けられ、国の名勝や天然記念物に指定されています。
また、日本の滝百選や日本三大名瀑の一つにも数えられおり、「富士山-信仰の対象と芸術の源泉」を構成する資産として世界文化遺産にも登録されています。
