During the summer the most popular thing in Japan is to enjoy Fireworks.
Summer fireworks are called Hanabi(花火). Every year from July to August you can see fireworks all around Japan.
As fireworks became more popular in the Edo period. The first public firework was held in 1733 when fireworks were launched around the Sumida River to honor the souls of the one million people who had died the previous year due to extreme poverty as well as provide some entertainment to the general public. Sumida River Firework Festival is very famous till now.
