I spent a few weeks on a foodie adventure exploring rural Japan. One of the highlights was a visit to Tsuruoka in Yamagata Prefecture. This city has such unique food, food products and cuisine that Tsuruoka is a UNESCO Cultural City of Gastronomy, the only such city in Japan. I highly recommend food travel to Japan, with their excellent train and public transportation system, it’s easy to get around.

This food travel vlog shows my farm to table farm lunch at Naa, a farm restaurant in the city of Tsuruoka. The delicious menu features various foods and products grown locally and on the farm itself. Even the rice is grown on the farm. Naa restaurant is part of Omoya Guesthouse which does farm stay experiences. It’s a truly amazing way to experience rural Japan. Tsuruoka is about three hours north of Tokyo near Sendai.

For me, the highlight was the pork shabu shabu, grown on the farm. I also loved the homemade raspberry salad dressing served with the salad made from ingredients grown only a few feet away from our lunch table.
