Now, the Yanaka area is a popular tourist spot among Japanese people. It is a calm place that retains the atmosphere of the old days of Tokyo even though the area is located in the center of Tokyo.
Until the 1970s, most residents in Tokyo had lived in traditional wooden folk houses, but many wooden folk houses had gone and now people prefer to live in modern concrete houses. However in Yanaka, some traditional wooden folk houses still remain. Most of these houses have been converted into restaurants, museums, or cafes, providing a place of relaxation for the people.
On this tour, we are going to visit the renovated folk houses in Yanaka including the popular folk house bar named “Yanaka Beer Hall”. At the lovely bar, we will show you not only the exterior of the house but also the interior such as the entrance, stairs, rooms with Tatami mats, which are traditional straw mats and try to tell you what the traditional Japanese life was like. We will also introduce some drinks and foods that you can enjoy at the bar.
