The cobalt blue Lake Towada is a lake that straddles Towada City in Aomori Prefecture and Kosaka Town in Akita Prefecture’s Kazuno-gun. It is a caldera lake formed by volcanic activity that began about 200,000 years ago. It is the third largest lake in Japan with a maximum depth of 326.8 meters, and the 12th largest in terms of area. On the eastern shore is the Oirase River, where the only water from Lake Towada flows out, and the Oirase Mountain Stream stretches about 14 km to the northeast. The Oirase Gorge stretches about 14 km to the northeast, and Mt. Hakkoda is located about 20 km to the north, making it a sightseeing spot, and sightseeing boats are in service except in winter.

Yasumiya is located on the southern shore of Lake Towada, and is an area where lodging facilities, restaurants, and souvenir shops are concentrated.
Gozengahama is a course that allows visitors to easily explore the nature of Lake Towada, including the tranquil view of the lake, the beautiful sandy beach, the natural forest by the lake, and Towada Shrine. From the entrance of the scenic route, there is a quiet walking area where cars and bicycles are not allowed, and there is a statue of a maiden, the symbol of Lake Towada.
There is also a sightseeing boat that departs and arrives here, which is recommended for sightseeing and transportation. From Lake Towada, you can see the islands like a Japanese garden and the mountains on the outside.
