岡山県倉敷市美観地区 夏。

岡山県倉敷市は倉敷川の恵を受け、米の生産地として開発が勧められてきました。その後、江戸幕府開府前(慶長5年)より、幕府の直轄地として物資輸送の中継地となり更なる発展を遂げます。以後、江戸幕府の後ろ盾や物資輸送による産品の集積地として繁栄を極めました。
倉敷川沿いには数多くの職人や酒屋、宿が軒を連ね、今現在でも、塗屋造り(外面や壁を漆喰で塗り固め防火性を高めた造り)や白壁土蔵(塗屋造りで造られた蔵)の街並みが倉敷の歴史を今に伝えます。

Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, has been recommended to develop as a rice producing area, receiving the blessings of the Kurashiki River. After that, before the opening of the Edo Shogunate (5th year of Keicho about 450 years ago), it became a relay point for the transportation of goods as a direct control area of the Shogunate and further development was achieved. Since then, it has become extremely prosperous as a backing area for the Edo Shogunate and a collection of products for the transportation of goods.
Many craftsmen, liquor stores, and inns are lined up along the Kurashiki River, and even today, it is still built with plaster (the exterior and walls are plastered to improve fire resistance) and white wall warehouse (built with paint). The cityscape of Kurashiki tells the history of Kurashiki.
