Toyoyama School of Shingon Buddhism Daihonzan Gokokuji Temple
Gokoku-ji Temple was founded in 1681 by the fifth shogun, Tsunayoshi Tokugawa, at the request of his mother, Katsuraishoin.
The main deity of the temple is the Avalokitesvara Avalokitesvara.
The temple later became a prayer temple for the shogun’s fortune and longevity.
The temple’s main hall from the Genroku era and Gekkouden, which was moved in 1928, are both designated as national important cultural properties.
There are also many other designated cultural properties.
After the Meiji era, the relationship with the Tokugawa family was severed, and the cemetery was built for ordinary people.
Sanjo Sanemi, Aritomo Yamagata, Mitsuaki Tanaka, and Shigenobu Okuma are buried here.

真言宗豊山派　大本山　護国寺
天和元年（1681）五代将軍徳川綱吉が、生母桂昌院の願いにより創建した祈願寺である。
如意輪観音を本尊としている。
後には将軍家の武運長久を祈る祈願寺となった。
元禄時代の本堂、昭和3年に移築された月光殿は、ともに国の重要文化財に指定されている。
その他指定文化財も数多い。
明治期以降徳川家との関係が絶たれ、一般人の墓所を造成した。
三条実美、山県有朋、田中光顕、大隈重信などが眠る。
