Would you be able to eat a big bowl of sushi and rice at 7:30am?
We got up early in Hakodate to get the train to the city centre to visit the Asaichi Morning Market and go for a kaisendon, or sushi donburi (rice bowl) in the Donburi Yokocho next door.
Hakodate’s on the Southern coast of Hokkaido and it’s famous for its seafood. The icy waters are perfect for seafood and fish like tuna (maguro), squid (ika) and crab (kani) – especially snow crab. It would have been rude not to try some!
Do you think you could stomach sushi or sashimi at 7:30am? Let us know in the comments!
The morning market is really close to the train station, but we also did a Hakodate walkthrough video, which you can find on our channel.
The Morning Market is here:
