The Oirase River is a river that flows into the Pacific Ocean from Lake Towada, which was created by the eruption of a volcano near the border between Aomori and Akita prefectures. I am. It is about 14km from Nenokuchi, which flows out of Lake Towada, to the Oirase Gorge Tourist Center (Michi-no-Eki Oirase) downstream of it. In 1936, it was designated as Towada Hachimandaira National Park.
In 1952, it was upgraded to a special place of scenic beauty and a natural monument.
Surrounded by deep nature, the Oirase Gorge has a lively landscape created by the flow of water.
The roads and promenades along the mountain stream make it easy to walk around, and there are many attractions such as waterfalls, clear streams, and rocks, and you can feel the natural beauty of each season.
You can drive by car, but it is recommended to enjoy the negative ions of the mountain stream waterfall and the forest bath on the promenade. It is also a place where you can see many animals and plants such as wild birds. The fresh green, where the flowers begin to bloom and the greens begin to sprout, begins to color from May to June, and the autumn leaves begin to color in early October, and the best time to see them is from mid-October to late October.
The recommended way to take a walk is the route from Yakeyama to Konoguchi.
Since the river is gently sloping, the water surface becomes deeper when viewed from the downstream, and depending on the flow, you can enjoy the spray.
There are many scenic spots such as Choshi Otaki, which is also a fish stop waterfall that has prevented fish from running up to Lake Towada, the flow of Ashura, and Kumoi no Taki.
It is a recommended place when you want to travel for healing.
Choshi Falls
It is the only waterfall that spans the main stream of the Oirase River, and boasts one of the largest waterfalls in the Oirase Gorge. The height is 7m and the width is 20m, and it is a masterpiece to see the splashing water while making a roaring sound. It is also called “Uotome no Taki”, which prevents fish from going up to Lake Towada.
Kumoi no Taki
It is one of the most spectacular waterfalls along the Oirase Gorge, which has a lot of water. It is a large stepped waterfall created at the place where the tributaries join the main stream, and it is a waterfall that bends from a head of 20m to 3 steps and flows down. There is a lot of water, and it is spectacular to see it falling powerfully from between the surrounding trees.
Shiraito Falls
It is said that it is called “Shiraito no Taki” because it looks like a thread with many thin flowing lines. It is recommended to see through the green gap during the fresh green season.
