Compare the cityscapes of big cities.
We captured a scene of Kandagawa (Tokyo) and Seine River (Paris), with the symbols of each city and the surrounding cityscape spread out on either side.
The Kanda River includes an artificial valley created as part of a hydraulic control project during the Edo period, and it was formed as part of the Sotobori(outer moat). The Seine runs through the center of Paris from east to west, and has been used as an urban river for people’s lives since the Frankish Empire.
~Comparison point 1 River history and its structure~
-The Kanda River flows through a part of the outer moat of Edo Castle (currently the Imperial Palace), and it also played a role as a defense in case of an emergency with a steep slope. (6:17,10:20, 12:15). The area where the grass is growing reminds us of history. It was connected to the Sumida River by the Sendai Domain during the Edo period, and its connection, Sendaibori (from Ushigome Bridge near Iidabashi Station to Akihabara Station), is an artificial valley.
The train (Chuo Line) is also exposed to the river(13:35), and you can see the river from the train window. There are basically trees, and visibility from the sidewalk is not good.
-The Seine has a large role as an urban river and was once used as a water and sewage system. In recent years, due to serious water pollution, the city of Paris is looking ahead to the 2024 Olympics in Paris and is embarking on its improvement.
Also, in the video, the railroad (RER C line) runs underground on the south side of the river, but on the Seine river on the west side of Paris, you can see the river from inside the train. The view from the sidewalk is also good, and is seen through to the opposite bank.
~Comparison point 2 How to use the river now & absence of hydrophilic space~
-The Kanda River is 10-20m wide and is relatively narrow, and in some places it is high density of buildings on the side, so large vessels cannot pass through. There is no riverbank, so no usages for the waterside, but you can also see a riverbed cafe near Shohei Bridge near Akihabara.
-The Seine is 30-200m wide, and large vessels are frequently seen. A pleasure boat called Bateaux Mouches(7:58-) is one of the tourist attractions. There are also many large ships anchored on the banks of the river and they open restaurants. In addition, the riverbank is wide and many outdoor terraces are installed in the summer. Although it is a large river, it also functions as a hydrophilic space.

大都市の街並みを比較。
神田川は江戸時代に治水事業の一貫としてできた人工河川を含み、外濠としての役割も果たしていました。セーヌ川はパリ中心部を東西に貫通する河川であり、フランク帝国以降都市河川として人々の生活を支えてきました。
～比較ポイント1 河川の歴史とその構造～
-神田川は江戸城(現在の皇居)の外堀の一部を流れており、急峻な勾配で有事の際の防衛としての役割も担っていました。6:17,10:20,12:15においては、草が繁っているあたりなどはその名残を感じさせます。江戸時代に仙台藩による隅田川に接続され、その接続部である仙台堀(飯田橋駅近くの牛込橋から秋葉原駅)は人工の谷です。
また電車(中央線)も川に露出しており(13:35)、車窓からその河川の様子がみられます。基本的に樹木などがあり、歩道からの見通しは悪いです。
-セーヌ川は生活河川としての役割が大きく、かつては上下水道としても利用されていました。近年では深刻な水質汚染により、パリ市は2024年のパリ五輪も見据えその改善に乗り出しています。
また、動画内では、鉄道(RER C線)は河川南側の地下を走っていますが、パリ西側のセーヌ川では車内から川を眺めることも可能です。歩道からの眺めもよく、対岸まで見通すことができます。
～比較ポイント2 河川の利用方法 親水空間の有無～
-神田川は川幅10-20mで、比較的狭く場所によっては脇のビルに密接しているため、大型船舶の通行はありません。また河岸もないため水辺の利用もみられませんが、秋葉原近くの昌平橋袂では川床カフェなどもみられます。
-セーヌ川は川幅は30-200mあり、大型船舶の往来も頻繁に見受けられます。バトー・ムーシュと呼ばれる遊覧船は観光名物(7:58-)の一つであす。また河岸に停泊し飲食店などを営む大型船も多くみられます。また河岸は広く夏場を多くの屋外テラスが設置され、大きな河川ながら、親水空間としても機能しています。
以上のポイントを踏まえて動画をみるとより両者の違いを楽しむことができます。
日常の街並みの延長に、あの街の姿が投影されているかも。。。
