柳川市三橋町にある熊野神社境内には約350坪の藤棚があり、毎年約130cmの花が咲きます。

江戸は享保の時代（18世紀）、この地で酒屋を営んでいた萬という人が河内野田の藤の実を持ち帰り、大切に植え育てたものが始まりと言われています。
It is said that Edo began in the Kyoho era (18th century) when a man named Man, who ran a liquor store in this area, brought back the wisteria fruits of Kawachi Noda and carefully planted and raised them.
数十年後には毎年四尺(約1m20cm)程の見事な花を咲かせる様になり、毎年見物客で賑わう様になりましたが、 酒に酔った武士が刀を抜き乱暴を働いたために、藤の木は熊野神社境内に移されました。

現在の藤棚面積は1200㎡。毎年4月に「中山大藤まつり」が開催され、境内いっぱいに染まる藤色が多くの観光客の目を楽しませています。
