Trekking in Nepal has been at the top of our bucket list for years now and we could not have been more excited to take on the Three Passes Trek in the beautiful Khumbu region.
Our “plan” (which would not work out at all…) was to trek over three high mountain passes as well as hike to Everest Base Camp throughout an 18 day period.
In this video, we take you through the first 4 days of this journey. After the infamous flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, we made the easy trek mostly downhill to Phakding on day 1.
Day 2 was a slightly more challenging trek to Namche Bazaar. We crossed many suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River, including the Hillary Suspension Bridge, before making the steep climb up to Namche.
We had an acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar where we hiked to the Everest View Hotel and another nearby village. After a 2nd night in Namche we made our way to Tengboche on day 4. The views became more beautiful and dramatic with each step and on this day the weather was clear and we finally got our first view of Everest!
At this point we were feeling good and acclimatizing well and we had very high hopes for the days ahead. However, the coming days would go nothing like we planned…
Stay tuned for parts 2 and 3 which will be coming in the next couple of weeks.
