We will visit the headwaters of the Onga River, which was temporarily closed due to a landslide caused by the heavy rain in northern Kyushu in 2017.
The Onga River is a first-class river that flows from the Chikuho region of Fukuoka Prefecture to Kitakyushu City, Nakama City, and Onga District. The basin municipalities are 7 cities, 14 towns and 1 village. The population of the basin is about 670,000 [Public Relations 1]. It is also the only river in Kyushu where salmon run up.
The Onga River (total length 61 km), which is the largest river in northern Kyushu, is located in the mountains of Mt. Umami (978 m) in Kama City. The water that springs up from there is poured into Hibiki-nada along with many rivers such as the Honami and Hikoyama rivers.
