Higashimachi district was the venue of the Naha Tug-of-War in Ryukyu Kingdom era

The one of most biggest event in Naha city is the “Naha Giant Tug-of-War” Festival, and everybody love it!

Current Naha Tug-of-War festival holds on the Hwy 58 in Kumoji district, but it was held at Higashimachi in Ryukyu Kingdom era.

It was the street in front of Satsuma domain (current Kagoshima prefecture) office after Satsuma invaded Ryukyu. That’s why the road was so large size and very clean.

Because it is very close to Naha Port, and the Higashimachi area were very busy and lively place until the battle of Okinawa.

There are many important historical sites and interested place!
