Hundreds of cats reside on the internet-famous cat island of Tashirojima where they outnumber humans 4 to 1. This makes it a must visit destination in Japan for any cat lovers, because nowhere else will you see so many cats at once all vying for your attention (if you have food)! While feeding is discouraged, if you must do so then please make sure to bring proper cat food and don’t feed them human food!

I recommend allocating an entire day for this trip, because as a cat (and animal) lover I was absolutely astounded by how many cats were here! Plus I came during off-season in winter in the midst of COVID-19, so I pretty much had the entire island’s cats all to myself. Needless to say, it was one of the happiest days of my time in Japan to be surrounded by so many cute cats 😍🥰🤩
