One thing you must try when in Japan is a traditional Japanese Onsen Bath! An authentic Japanese experience and one of my favorite things here in Japan.
However, I know it can be a little intimidating, the thought of being naked with a lot of strangers taking a bath. So many people shy away from going to an onsen or a sento. But there is another option, many people are not aware of, a private onsen hotel! Where you have a private onsen in your hotel room. Yes, that is a traditional onsen bathtub just for yourself!
So let me show you what this could look like. As I recently took a day trip from Tokyo to Kawaba in Gunma and spent a night at Kinshuusanso, a luxury onsen hotel with my very own private onsen. Let me show you what a traditional ryokan looks like, including the room (bigger than my Tokyo apartment, check it out here: and of course, there was also food. So watch until the end to see THE BREAKFAST.
An amazing getaway so make sure to add this one to your list – such a special experience to have in Japan!

Tip: The best way to visit this particular Onsen Hotel “Kinshuusanso” is by car, however, they do pick up from the close stations including Numata Station and Jomokogen, which is on the Shinkansen that continues to Niigata. It is a free shuttle bus, but you need to reserve it in advance…
